St. Anne
Jesus had a grandmother. This is her.
Anne is not in the Bible. Everything the Church says about her comes from very old writings outside it, and what they say is simple: she and her husband Joachim wanted a child for a long time and did not have one, and then they had Mary.
That is nearly all of it. No speeches, no miracles she performed, no dramatic ending. She raised a daughter, and her daughter said yes to something enormous, and you can decide for yourself how much of that came from the house she grew up in.
She is the patron saint of grandmothers, and if you have one, July 26 is a good day to call her.
